About Me

guyfierirecipes.com

I’m Hunter Fieri, a home cook in Chicago, Illinois. I have cooked for more than 10 years, starting in a cramped dorm kitchen with one pan. Today I cook, write, and photograph every recipe on this site myself.

How This Site Started

I first watched Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives in 2011. The Donkey Sauce segment made me want to cook it at home.

My first batch came out bitter. The garlic had roasted until the edges scorched. It took 4 attempts to get a smooth, mellow sauce. Pulling the garlic at 38 minutes instead of 50 fixed it.

Online recipes skipped steps or gave no measurements. In 2026, I started this site to keep the working versions in one place. Once Guy’s dishes worked, I moved on to restaurant favorites I kept ordering and wanting to repeat at home.

What You’ll Find Here

This site is a collection of copycat recipes. Each one recreates a dish or drink I have eaten, watched being made, or wanted to cook at home. Guy Fieri dishes started it all. Donkey Sauce, trash can nachos, smash burgers, chili, and prime rib are all here.

Restaurant copycats make up the largest group. Examples include Outback’s blooming onion sauce, Yard House brussels sprouts, Din Tai Fung chili oil, and Cheesecake Factory alfredo.

There are also recipes for home machines, such as Cuisinart and KitchenAid ice cream makers. A few bakes and Dutch Bros-style drinks round out the list.

How I Develop Recipes

I cook each recipe at least 3 times before posting it. I record exact weights, pan sizes, and cook times.

For a Guy Fieri dish, I rebuilt it from his episodes and cookbooks. For a restaurant dish, I use menu descriptions and tasting notes. Then I adjust each one for ingredients from a regular grocery store. Machine recipes are tested in the model named in the post.

Background

I work a full-time job in Chicago and test recipes on weekends. My mother taught me to make tomato sauce from scratch. That is where I learned to taste and adjust as I cook.
